🧵 The Journey of Your Underwear: From Idea to Your Body

At UNTAG, we’re not just designing underwear—we’re shaping a future where trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse people can feel truly seen, supported, and affirmed in what they wear.

Based in Diemen, the Netherlands, UNTAG is rooted in inclusivity, sustainability, and thoughtful design. From underwear and swimwear to binders and gender-affirming accessories, we create clothing that fits not just your body, but your life.

Our pieces are made to move with you, to support you, and to last. And behind each item is a process that puts people and the planet first.

Ever wondered how your favorite pair of UNTAG underwear comes to life?
Spoiler: it’s not just fabric and stitches—it’s feedback, values, and a whole lot of care.

Let’s walk you through the journey. From our small studio in Diemen to your wardrobe, here's how we turn an idea into something you can actually wear and feel good about.

Step 1: It Starts with You

We don’t sit around sketching random designs and hoping they’ll work out. Every new product begins with real feedback from the UNTAG community.
You send us your thoughts via surveys, DMs, emails, and chats at events—and we listen. That’s how we make sure each piece solves a real need.

Because we’ve been here since 2004, we’ve had the chance to build long-term trust with our community—and to grow right alongside it. That connection is the foundation of everything we make.

Step 2: Sampling, Right Here in Diemen

Once we know what’s needed, we start bringing it to life—right in our own studio in Diemen, the Netherlands.
We sew all our samples in-house. Why? Because it gives us full creative control. We tweak, we test, we rethink. And if something’s not working, we change it—fast.

This stage is where most of the magic (and the mess) happens.

Step 3: Real Fit on Real Bodies

Forget “standard fit models.” Our fittings happen on real bodies—different sizes, shapes, and gender expressions.

Our sizing goes up to 8XL, because not everything is one-size-fits-all, and we never want anyone to feel left out. We adjust patterns, tweak seams, and shift silhouettes until the fit feels right. This isn’t about squeezing people into rigid molds. It’s about creating pieces that move with you, support you, and affirm who you are.

Step 4: Fabrics That Work—and Feel Good

We source our fabrics from ethical suppliers in Italy and Belgium. They’re soft, durable, and eco-certified—because we don’t think comfort should come at the cost of the planet.

When it comes to binders, we’re especially picky: we use our famous 4-way stretch fabrics that offer support, flexibility, and breathability all in one. They bind well—and feel better.

Step 6: Quality Checks & Low-Impact Finishing

Before anything is shipped out, every item goes through a round of quality checks. We look at stitching, sizing, and overall comfort.
Labels, trims, and packaging? Low-impact and often recyclable or biodegradable.

You won’t find excess plastic or unnecessary waste here.

Step 7: Shipping That’s Safe, Simple, and Discreet

Orders are packed and sent out from our distribution centre, using minimal, recyclable packaging. And here’s something we know matters: we always ship discreetly. No logos. No obvious branding. Because many of our customers rely on that layer of privacy and safety—and we take that seriously. We also optimize shipping to keep it fast, efficient, and low in carbon impact.

Step 8: Sustainability Isn't a Buzzword

We make mindful choices at every step: from sourcing recycled materials and supporting fair labor, to producing on a small scale and minimizing waste.

Our goal isn’t just to reduce our CO₂ footprint—it’s to create a system that’s respectful, regenerative, and transparent.

Why Our Prices Reflect the Process

We know our products aren’t the cheapest on the market—and we’re okay with that. Because behind every product is a chain of ethical decisions:

  • Fair wages for makers
  • Premium, sustainable materials
  • In-house development
  • Small-scale production
  • Inclusive sizing
  • Circular practices
  • Discreet, safe shipping
  • Knowledge sharing and education

We put a lot of time and care into ensuring our products are not only affirming—but also safe. That includes testing, fit, and the guides and resources we provide alongside every item.

All of that takes effort—and yes, it adds to the cost. But we believe it’s worth it, and we think you do too.

It’s More Than Just Underwear

It’s about community, care, and clothing that supports who you are.

From idea to fit to finish, we put thought into every thread—so you can feel good in every fiber.
